7 Ways Acupressure can help you during pregnancy and postpartum

I am writing to introduce you to the help acupressure can offer you during pregnancy and postpartum. I have been a Holistic Healthcare Practitioner for over 20  years.  My specialties include but are not limited to: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including: acupressure, moxibustion and tuina, Reiki, Yoga, lifestyle counseling and meditation.  I have been a Doula, taught pre and post natal yoga, created the online course acupressure for labour, and currently help people with pregnancy related challenges!  What follows is a list of services that may be helpful for you or your clients.

Early pregnancy:

Acupressure and Traditional Chinese Medicine supports pregnancy through these times by easing their symptoms, nourishing and strengthening them as they transition through this period. Treatments can be effective with: morning sickness, threatened miscarriage, exhaustion, anxiety, and more.

Throughout pregnancy:

As the baby grows and develops TCM can help with new aches and pains. Common symptoms that can be helped include: hip pain, sciatica, heartburn, constipation, urinary tract infections, itching, depression, insomnia, sinusitis, pregnancy induced hypertension, and edema.

Pre-Birth Treatments:

Starting at 37 weeks women come for a weekly treatment to help promote qi and blood flow (TCM terms) or from a Western view to help balance hormones and relieve stress (physical, emotional and spiritual) to bring our body into alignment for birth.

Mal-position of Fetus:

Moxibustion is a very non-invasive but effective treatment for turning babies into an ideal position for birth.  The ideal time to do this is 32-36 weeks gestation, although it can be performed at anytime including labour.

Induction via acupressure:

A natural, safe alternative to try before pursuing allopathic Inductions. During this treatment time I also teach women and their partners the points to use to keep stimulating cervical ripening and productive contractions. Points can also be added to help with fear and anxiety.

Mother warming:

Is a tradition in China, this treatment can help mother’s who had a challenging birth. Traditionally a 40 day time period of rest, tending to the baby, healing, and gentle lifestyle.

Breastfeeding:

TCM can help with fearful/anxious moms, let down, and production.

It might be normal and TCM can help:

Many things that biomedicine accepts as normal inconveniences I have seen relieved or lessened greatly by the use of TCM’s gentle, safe approach. And that sure makes mom’s happier, healthier and better able to thrive during pregnancy.
